On IMDB, the keywords for the Family Guy episode Tom Tucker: The Man and His Dream include “Oedipal complex” and “incest joke.” Those two things might turn you off from this one, but that’d be a shame since Tom Tucker: The Man and His Dream is one of the best episodes of season 10.
The subplot involves Chris Griffin dating a girl who looks unmistakably like his mother Lois, hence the “incest jokes” and so on, but based on the premise, there’s a surprising lack of such jokes, and only one reference to the Oedipal Complex–and a clever one at that. Instead of using Chris’ experiences with early love as a springboard for crass humor, the writers at Family Guy take it to a surprisingly heartfelt conclusion that proves this show is capable of more sincerity and sentiment than most give it credit for.
The main plot involves Peter Griffin discovering TV anchorman Tom Tucker once played Michael Meyers in Halloween IV. In no time, he manages to talk Tom into giving up his job and heading for Hollywood where Peter will become his new agent. When they arrive, who should show up but James Woods, despite his apparent death in the season 9 premiere.
All in all, Tom Tucker: The Man and His Dream was a pretty solid episode that reminded me of why I like the series so much.
